Our Academic Partners

The Mark Hughes Foundation is immensely proud to be affiliated with the following organisations in the common goal of Brain Cancer Research:

THE UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE (UoN)

UoN logo3The Mark Hughes Foundation’s mission is to raise much needed funds for research, to create awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families. We are excited to now have the University of Newcastle joining our team, with a focus on building a sustainable and enduring approach to brain cancer research, education and clinical application.

Through our partnership with the University of Newcastle, The Mark Hughes Foundation Chair in Brain Cancer will be established. This significant leadership position at the University of Newcastle will drive a program of research and education to improve the lives of people affected by brain cancer, and better understand its causes and treatment.

The Chair will be supported by a research team who will drive nationally recognised programs in research and education and foster a “bench to bedside” transfer of research to practice to achieve health care improvements for brain cancer patients, their families and carers, and health professionals.  The focus of the Team will span prevention, early detection, recovery and rehabilitation, and treatments and models of care for all stages of brain cancer and across all ages, with a primary focus on adult brain cancer.

The University of Newcastle now joins us in the urgent pursuit of a cure.

Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI)

HMRI logoOne of the Mark Hughes Foundation's main objectives was to create a strong emphasis on brain cancer research.

We are proud to say that we have achieved this objective by partnering with Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), a translational research institute pioneering clinical and biomedical research striving to prevent, cure and treat a diverse range of serious illnesses.

Collaboration between HMRI and the Mark Hughes Foundation means donations to research will go straight towards brain cancer research at HMRI. Currently little research is focused specifically on brain cancer at HMRI however through your donations and support for the Mark Hughes Foundation, Brain Cancer research can be a major research focus.

We are excited to have created a dedicated funding stream for Brain Cancer research and hope that one day this will lead us to a cure.
