Cass Griffin is one of many passionate researchers who have made it their life’s work to find answers for brain cancer patients. They search for better treatments, outcomes and ultimately a cure for brain cancer. Her role as Research Manager at the MHF Brain Cancer Biobank means she is dealing with brain cancer patients, and their loved ones, as they contemplate end of life and what that means for them. She recognises the gravity of the decision these people make when they choose to donate their brain to research. She also acknowledges the honour bestowed on her spending precious time with patients and families at this intense, sad and sometimes uplifting time discussing life and death and the practicalities of becoming a brain donor. Often donors feel empowered by making such a generous gift to future generations who will, hopefully, benefit from their donation.
About Cass and the MHF Brain Cancer Biobank
Cassandra holds the role of Biobanking and Clinical Research Manager at the University of Newcastle and is the current President of the Australasian Biospecimen Networking Association (ABNA)…. and a PhD student in her spare time! Cass is extremely privileged to work closely with the wonderful Brain Cancer Care Coordinators and the patient community to operate the MHF Brain Cancer Biobank. Inspired by patients and supported by patients, the MHF Biobank is an invaluable collection of tumour and blood samples that can be accessed by researchers all over the world who are searching for ways to improve outcomes for people with brain cancer. Helping people with brain cancer engage with research and establish a legacy is an absolute honour and wouldn’t be possible without the support of the MHF and their iconic beanies. Seeing the community proudly wearing these little beanies never ceases to be a source of inspiration and hope. Without the MHF and the community who support them – we simply wouldn’t be here!
