Saturday the 16th of August, the Newcastle Exhibition & Convention Centre was transformed into the glittering streets of downtown Miami for the 9th annual Mark Hughes Foundation Magic Ball. Under the dazzling lights, over 600 guests celebrated in style – and together raised an incredible $315,000 in the fight against brain cancer, a record-breaking result for the event.
From the moment guests walked through the doors, they were swept into a spectacular Miami-inspired experience. Thanks to the creative brilliance of Scion Audio and Events, Blueberry Events, Jennings Print, and Love Glows, the room sparkled with vibrant theming, world-class lighting, and flawless production. The night pulsed with energy, brought to life by Steve Angel Events, Universal Carnivale, Komiti Music and Bermuda Social, while every unforgettable moment was captured by Simple Booth, EMG Photography and Toybox Films.
Guiding the evening with warmth was Channel 9’s Peter Overton, alongside our tireless MHF volunteers, whose hard work and dedication shone as brightly as the Miami lights.
The Magic Ball would not be possible without the generosity of our Gold Sponsors Australian Hotels Association Newcastle Hunter, Avery Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, and The MacDougall Foundation along with our Silver, Bronze and Beverage Sponsors. A special shout-out also goes to our auctioneers, Jono Wilson and James Slattery, and to every individual and business who generously donated prizes, helping create our most exciting live and silent auctions and raffle yet.
With the incredible support of our community, the 2025 Magic Ball was more than just a night of glamour – it was another giant step forward in our mission to beat brain cancer.
