This month, an incredible team of 20 riders plus support crew are taking on the challenge of a lifetime for the Mark Hughes Foundation as they pedal their way from Darwin, NT to Bulga, NSW covering an astonishing 4,300 kilometres across three states in just 30 days.
Ridin’ 4 Mates IV Tropics to the Bush is about much more than just kilometres. It’s about honouring mates lost to brain cancer, supporting those currently facing the fight of their lives, and raising vital funds and awareness to help change the future for families impacted by this devastating disease.
The ride was born from heartbreak. After losing close friends to brain cancer, Brad Bates turned his grief into action, creating a movement that continues to inspire communities across Australia. What started as Doing it 4 Mates evolved into Ridin’ 4 Mates, and since 2022, the initiative has raised close to $200,000 for the Mark Hughes Foundation.
Now, the team is back on the road for their biggest challenge yet.
🚴 4,300km from Darwin to Bulga
🚴 27 riding days across three states
🚴 Average of 160km per day
The journey is split into two major stages:
📍 Darwin to Port Augusta – 2,700km
📍 Port Augusta to Bulga – 1,500km
It will take determination, resilience, teamwork and plenty of grit, but every kilometre ridden brings us one step closer to a future free from brain cancer.
To the incredible team working behind the scenes, thank you for the countless hours, planning and dedication that have made this epic ride possible. And to the major sponsors — de Witt Consulting, BS Maintenance & Repairs, Hedweld, Kelly Trotter Motor Group — along with all the generous sponsors supporting the ride, thank you for getting behind this remarkable journey.
