This week, Sharyn, Emma and members of the MHF Centre for Brain Cancer Research team proudly represented the Mark Hughes Foundation at Head to the Hill at Parliament House in Canberra.
Hosted by Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA), this important event brought together more than 350 patients, carers, families, clinicians, researchers and advocates from across Australia, all united by the common goal of improving outcomes for those impacted by brain cancer.
A particularly powerful part of the day was the display of thousands of shoes, each symbolising someone whose life has been touched by brain cancer. It was incredibly meaningful to recognise so many contributions from patients and families who have been part of the MHF journey over the years and to see their stories honoured.
Attendees heard from an inspiring lineup of speakers, including our own Professor Mike Fay, Director and Foundation Chair, Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research at the University of Newcastle. The incredible lineup also featured Carrie Bickmore, Dr Katie Nicoll, Andrew Wilkie MP, Dr Kim Wark and Fiona Hassman. Each brought an important perspective to the conversation, highlighting the urgent need for continued investment in research, and the importance of improving care and support for patients and their families.
A huge thank you to BTAA for organising such a meaningful event and bringing our community together. Events like Head to the Hill reinforce the importance of collaboration and ensure the voices of the brain cancer community are heard.
Together, we will continue to raise awareness, advocate for change and fight for a future free from brain cancer. 💙
