The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) is excited to introduce our 2018 Beanie for Brain Cancer Ambassadors – the Callander family!
Matt Callander, was an Executive Producer of the NRL and the Footy Show at Channel 9 for many years and a friend of MHF. He lost his battle with brain cancer in October 2017 after being diagnosed with an aggressive Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multi-form (GBM) brain tumour 18 months prior.
Following his diagnosis, Matt could be forgiven if he just sat around feeling sorry for himself – but he didn’t. He decided to raise awareness about brain cancer’s shocking statistics and lack of funding for research into the disease by introducing the NRL Beanie Round. With the support of his family, the NRL, Channel Nine, The Footy Show, Fox Sports and thousands of Matt’s friends, colleagues and supporters – the inaugural NRL Beanie for Brain Cancer Round raised an astonishing $2.3 million.
It is with great pride, and pleasure, that we can announce Anne Callander, together with Madison, Indiana, Digger and Archie, have agreed to be our “MHF Beanie For Brain Cancer 2018 Ambassadors” to keep Matt’s dream of finding a cure for brain cancer alive.
The NRL Beanie Round was Matt’s ‘brainchild’ and it is incredible to have such wonderful support from Channel Nine and the NRL as we continue this year with Round 12 (May 24-27) set to be the NRL Beanie Round.
We had a great day with the Callander clan getting photos taken in our brand new, beautiful 2018 beanies.
But please don’t message us about buying the beanies – we don’t have them yet! All will be revealed soon and they will be on sale in May… So stay tuned.
A huge thank you to Anne, Madison, Indiana, Digger and Archie for helping us continue our fight to tackle brain cancer!
