The 5th Annual NRL Beanie Round!

The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) has today launched the 2021 Beanie for Brain Cancer Round, with the new look MHF beanies available across the country at NRL fixtures from June 17-20.

The rugby league community will once again be asked to take the fight to Brain Cancer, in a bid to raise funds for much needed research as a result of survival rates only increasing by 1% in the last 30 years.

The goal of raising $3 million has been set by the MHF team as footy fans are urged to buy a beanie across this weekend’s eight games, where all 16 clubs and official broadcast partners Nine and Fox League will unite, in a show of strength across the NRL.

MHF has also announced a commitment of an initial $7.5million over five years to the University of Newcastle to establish a dedicated brain cancer research team under the leadership of the MHF Chair of Brain Cancer.

MHF Founder, Mark Hughes, said: “Every single person in the rugby league community has the power to make a difference this week and together we can do anything, even beat this terrible disease.”

“I’m really proud to announce that we are growing the research team that will bring help hope to people with brain cancer and their families. We are moving quickly to make sure every dollar gets to where it’s needed.

“It is because of our incredible supporters that this next step is possible and we want to say thank you to everyone that has bought a beanie so far. The success ofBeanie for Brain Cancer Round has truly made a difference but the battle has only just begun. We now have better research in place to take on this gruesome opponent - but the final result still weighs on every beanie we sell.”

Sportsbet will donate $1000 for every try scored in Beanie for Brain Cancer Round on top of a $50,000 donation from the purchase of Clive Churchill’s first ever Kangaroos jersey that will sit in the NRL museum.

On the ground this year, The Big Three trek will run alongside Beanie for Brain Cancer Round, with 30 trekkers walking from NRL Headquarters in Sydney to McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle across three days to raising funds and awareness for MHF.

The idea of three men from the Hunter region, has since turned into 30 trekkers walking the entire 150 km journey, with 150 sports personalities, reality TV stars and journalists uniting for the first 4km from NRL HQ to the Sydney Opera House.

MHF urge the wider community to wear their beanies this week just like their NRL heroes in support of patients and families dealing with this dreaded disease.

The 2021 beanie designs will be joined by a kid’s version, back by popular demand.
