Novocastrians always dig deep for a local cause, it’s in our blood. There is no other team like it, when it comes to a Newcastle team, especially when one of our own are involved. Mark Hughes, our very own locally grown Newcastle Knights dual premiership winner and State of Origin player has really experienced the highs and lows of life.
In 2013 Mark was diagnosed with brain cancer. But with his winning spirit and positive attitude, the only way Mark knows how to operate, he has come through this on the better side. Again typically of Mark, he wants to give back, and help make a difference to others. And that he has done. Astonishingly the foundation has already raised $140,000 within a 5 month period!
The foundation’s next project is with Kotara Home on a shopping auction event. Over 40 items are being auctioned with a retail value of $33,000 plus. Ten live auctions will take place on Saturday 11 October with 30 plus being silently auctioned from now until Saturday 11 October.
There are a variety of items up for grabs from computers, electrical items, homewares, furniture, beds, manchester, beauty products, memorabilia from all sporting sectors, football, cricket, tennis etc.

There are no reserve prices with all monies raised going to the charity. This is the time to buy that piece for your home as you are helping a good cause.

On Saturday 11 October the day of the live auctions, there will be a heap of activity for all to enjoy from 9:30am. BBQ sausage sizzle, giveaways, free face painting, coloured painting of hair, pass the ball competitions with Danny Buderus and friends, clowns, balloons, free popcorn, a live band all being hosted by Adam McDougall!
Money raised via the Mark Hughes Foundation goes straight to HMRI to promote research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families within the community.
