Building Momentum: PhD Student Secures New Research Funding

MHF Centre for Brain Cancer Research PhD Student Simin Zheng

A major milestone in a researcher’s career is winning their first grant, so we’d love to celebrate the success of MHF Centre PhD student Simin Zheng who’s just been awarded funds through HMRI Brain Health Research Program Seed Funding.

This will help progress the important work that Simin is undertaking with drug repurposing in glioblastoma. Simin has been exploring how well pre-existing drugs (already proven safe and effective in humans) can be used to fight the DNA repair that happens in glioblastoma, to ensure that treatments work more effectively.

Simin will use this grant to purchase specialised media and cell culture reagents that are vital to complete her work.

Her work addresses two of the key challenges in brain cancer: effective drug development to the brain and the treatment resistance that leads to recurrence.

We are very excited about this project, and so thrilled that Simin has been awarded funding to progress it.

Donate today & help beat brain cancer

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how it is treated.

That’s why we need your help. Every dollar helps in the fight against brain cancer. Your donation will go towards vital research to improve patient treatments and, hopefully, find a cure one day.

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
