CHRISTIAN BEHLER AWARDED WILLGOOSE SCHOLARSHIP

We are excited to introduce our newest PhD student, Christian Behler, who was awarded the MHF Centre’s Willgoose Scholarship. This scholarship honours the memory of Prof Garry Willgoose, a long-term staff member of the University of Newcastle and Professor of Engineering. Garry was committed to lifelong learning and a strong advocate of the importance of research in solving real-world problems. Garry and his partner (Veronica) have kindly provided the funds to support this scholarship.

Christian’s research project is dedicated to developing an AI system for medical scan analysis. This innovative approach aims to improve how clinicians diagnose and treat brain cancer, providing them with more precise information. The project seeks to offer earlier insights into the effectiveness of treatments, enhancing decision-making for patient care. By leveraging advanced AI techniques, Christian aims to surpass the current diagnostic boundaries, setting a new standard in brain cancer management and understanding.

With a background in physics, Christian is eager to utilise his skills in computational modelling and data analysis to progress brain cancer research through advanced imaging techniques.

Donate today & help beat brain cancer

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how it is treated.

That’s why we need your help. Every dollar helps in the fight against brain cancer. Your donation will go towards vital research to improve patient treatments and, hopefully, find a cure one day.

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
